Weekly News Wrap-up - Eye for an Eye
Its ridiculous to think, a woman who downloads music gets a huge fine, but someone who actually distributes copyrighted material gets next to nothing. The punishment needs to fit the crime and in the case of the Guns n’ Roses leaker, it doesn’t. At least not in comparison. Kevin Cogill received the legal equivalent of a slap on the wrist; one-year probation, a couple months of house confinement and he must film an anti-piracy PSA. (billboard.biz)
Jamie Thomas-Rasset, is requesting for her fine to be reduced. She is requesting the fine be lowered to the more reasonable $18,000 or have a new jury choose a lower amount in a new trial. (theregister.co.uk)
Four of my favorite bands have announced their new albums. Fall of Troy is releasing their new album “In the Unlikely Event” on October 6th. Brand New are set to release their new album “Daisy” later this year. Thrice will be releasing “Beggars” on October 13th. And Every Time I Die will be releasing “New Junk Aesthetic” on Sept. 15. To hold you over until the fall, you can listen to their new track at their Myspace page. (myspace.com)
Ozzy Osbourne has ditched Zakk Wylde. The guitar great, who has been in the band since 1987, hadn’t even heard the news from Ozzy, even though he is auditioning new guitarists. Ozzy had commented, “I haven’t fallen out with Zakk, but Zakk’s got his own band, and I felt like my stuff was beginning to sound like Black Label Society. I just felt like I wanted a change, you know?” (rollingstone.com)
