Weekly News Wrap-up - “Survivable Royalty Rates”
Pandora has struck a deal for “survivable royalty rates”. The negotiations between Pandora and record labels has been going on for a couple of years and has finally reached a resolution. Pandora will receive a 40-50% reduction in royalty rates, but they will also have to fork over 25% of their revenue. This means Pandora will be putting some minor restrictions on their “free” service. (techcrunch.com)
Minnesota mom, Jamie Thomas-Rasset, who was stuck with the $1.92 million fine, is requesting either a reduction in the fine or a new trail. Her legal team has stated that the fine is “grossly excessive and, therefore, subject to remittitur as a matter of federal common law”. They are requesting the fine be reduced to $18,000. Dinosaur Jr. has apparently decided they were going to compete in the loudness wars, at least in Europe. Their new album “Farm” has mistakenly been mastered 3db louder. For anyone who bought the album, you can trade your loud copy in for the album as it was intended. (mastering-media.blogspot.com)
