Albums of the Week - Taking Back Tuesday
Well it is another week and there is a whole new set of albums out this Tuesday. This week features some new releases from a few veterans of the punk and emo scenes and a battle between a former husband and wife (Tim Armstrong of Rancid and Brody Dalle-Homme of Spinnerette). Oh, and if you don’t like the new DMB album “Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King” you apparently don’t like music.
Most Anticipated:
Taking Back Sunday - “New Again”
I’ve been a little weary of this day for some time now. The day Taking Back Sunday releases a new album. I stayed with them through the loss of John Nolan. I thought Fred Mascherino was a great addition. He really added to their call and answer vocal styles. But now that he is gone, this album will have to be as good as I hope it will be for me to stay with the band.
Emery - “…In Shallow Seas We Sail”
I’ve been a big fan of Emery ever since I saw this video of “Walls”. Watch it and tell me they aren’t awesome. Also, listen to the new album… You’ll want to thank me… with sexual favors. God knows I could use them.
Other Releases to Look Out For:
Dave Matthews Band - “Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King”
Rancid - “Let the Dominoes Fall”
Eels - “Hombre Lobo”
Spinnerette - “Spinnerette”
iwrestledabearonce - “It’s All Happening”
311 - “Uplifter”
Drop Dead, Gorgeous - “The Hot N’ Heavy”
Albums I Hate to Admit Might Be Good:
Motionless in White - “The Whorror”
I think I would be a lot more stoked about this band had I not seen their promo shots. The band is straight out of a Hot Topic ad and as we all know… “Hot Topic is Not Punk Rock”. They look like one of those “image” bands, whose eyeliner is more important than their music. Despite that, their music is quite good. I guess that will teach me for judging a book by its cover.
