Weekly News Wrap-Up - It’s OK Dave, They Scare Me Too
Radiohead has returned to the studio this week after not long after releasing “In Rainbows”. The band which took 4 years between “Hail to the Thief” and “In Rainbows” is back in the studio after a short year and a half. (bbc.co.uk)
It was a busy week for Radiohead. Outside of the studio, Thom Yorke has asked fans to sign a “Stop Global Warming” petition. His reasoning? Beyond that of global warming being bad, the oil industry is investing in a PR campaign against U.S. climate change legislation. (radiohead.com)
The new Danger Mouse project Dark Was the Night of the Soul is plagued with legal problems. Fans buying the album will be sent a blank CD-R in a case with the album’s artwork. The package will contain a label ‘For Legal Reasons, enclosed CD-R contains no music. Use it as you will,’ due to ongoing legal issues with EMI. This could go be related to Danger Mouse’s grey album which featured music from the Beatles’ “White Album”, of which EMI owns the rights. (rollingstone.com)
The Canadian singer Gonzales has set a new world record for the longest public solo performance. He played 300 consecutive songs on the piano over a span of 27 hours. Marathon performances are just a trend for indie artist. Even huge arena bands are getting in on the act. Bruce Springsteen has played 5 hour performances and Green Day plan to attempt 6 hours on their upcoming “21st Century Breakdown” tour. (nme.com)
This Week in Videos:
Mastodon - “Oblivion (Live on Letterman)”
When Dave says he is “frightened” of Mastodon and they cut to a shot of the band, it is comedic gold. It’s okay though Dave the band scares me too… in a good way.
White Rabbits - “Percussion Gun (Live on Letterman)”
This was a good week for Letterman. First he has Mastodon on and then White Rabbits. The band plays “Percussion Gun”, the first single from their album “It’s Frightening” (read review). It is a great performance and only adds to my love of that song.
Cage - “I Never Knew”
This new video by Cage features an appearance by Shia “The Beef” LaBeouf, who also directed the video. The video is almost good enough that I’m willing to forgive the disgrace that was “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”. Almost.
