Albums of the Week - Not Your Grandfather’s Summer Camp

This week one band tries to be relevant long after its associated fad has faded away, while we also look at some new releases from some indie veterans.

Most Anticipated:
CKY - “Carver City”
You have to give credit to the band, and its mostly due to the quality of its music, but they have far outlasted the fad they are most associated with. No I’m not talking about post-hardcore, I mean home videos of dumbasses hurting themselves. The original group of idiots was CKY (the video series the band shares its name with), featuring Bam Margera and Brandon DiCamillo. This video set is where the group got its break. Their music was prominently featured in each of the CKY videos. Also, it didn’t hurt that Jess Margera, Bam’s brother, is the drummer in the band.

White Rabbits - “It’s Frightening”
Releasing a great debut album is tough to do. Releasing a great sophomore album is even tougher, especially under close the close scrutiny of being a buzz band. White Rabbits may just be the band that is up to the task.

Other Releases to Look Out For:
Passion Pit - “Manners”
Jason Lytle - “Yours Truly, the Commuter”
Goes Cube - “Another Day Has Passed”
Iron and Wine - “Around the Well”
Settle - “At Home We Are Tourists”
Narrows - “New Distances”
Tori Amos - “Abnormally Attracted to the Sun”

Albums I Hate to Admit Might Be Good:
Crisis in Hollywood - “Safe and Sound”
I was introduced to this band through reading about Anthony Raneri of Bayside who has been working with the group. I figured meh… I like Bayside, why not give them a listen. Although my casual optimism was not met, the band is still worth a listen. Be ready for pop-punk that is trying to be better… trying…
