Vampire Weekend

I had a hard time deciding who to write about for my first BOTW. Fortunately, James (co-founder of this site), came in and saved the day. He introduced me to a group that wasn’t even on my radar; Vampire Weekend.

This band defines what it is to be an up and comer. They debuted their first, self titled, album on the 29 January of 2008.

The Gutter Twins - Saturnalia

Two of the 90’s leading alt-rock frontmen, Greg Dulli and Mark Lanegan, began work on an album in 2003. In March of 2008, the two, now known as The Gutter Twins, formally released Saturnalia. It is well worth the wait.

Saturnalia is not easily categorized. The bass centric, almost bluesy sound of the album gives it a dark feeling. Lyrically, it wanes between damnation and salvation. Add to that, Dulli’s and Lanegan’s deep and melancholy voices,

Why Trent Reznor is Wrong.

Earlier this week Stan reviewed “Ghosts” by Nine Inch Nails. He gave it a great rating and apparently so did the rest of the music-listening population. Nearly 800,000 copies of the album were moved in the first week, grossing over $1.6 million. Even more incredibly all 2,500 of the “ultra-deluxe” sets at $300 a piece sold out in the first couple
